My mother, Elizabeth Rose Herbert, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2002 at the age of 64. She was recovering from an unrelated surgery when the cancer was first discovered. She was not recovering from the surgery as quickly as she should have and she was actually getting worse.

Unfortunately, before she was diagnosed with breast cancer, the cancer had already metastasized to her bones and brain. By the time the cancer was discovered she had already lost precious time for treatment.

Within six months she was gone. My only wish is that she had discovered the cancer earlier to give her a better chance to survive it. Her last words were: "Oh, no, I'm scared." followed by "Wonderful!"
